From Mad in Brazil: School, in turn, is a space where, from the beginning of life, people are evaluated individually based on their performance. Based on difficulties in academic development, such as reading and writing, the student is referred for a medical evaluation in order to discover a disability. Once the diagnosis is in hand, this student will be treated differently, generating a double exclusion: the difference is pathologized and the student is discriminated against accordingly.
