AN AUDIENCE WITH AN ALLY offers an informal, interactive space for you to ask Louis about his work and book and why he is so passionate about challenging the medicalisation of emotional distress.

Louis Weinstock is a psychotherapist who works with children and the child inside us all. For over 20 years, he has expertly guided children and grown-ups through some of the toughest challenges life can throw at us – loss, trauma, divorce, burnout and breakdowns. He is also co-founder of Apart of Me, a multi-award-winning charity that helps young people transform their grief into compassion. His book – How The World Is Making Our Children Mad, And What To Do About It, was recently published by Penguin. His work has been featured on the BBC, ITV, and in the Guardian newspaper. He lives in Manchester with his wife and daughter.

MITUK’s mission is to serve as a catalyst for fundamentally re-thinking theory and practice in the field of mental health in the UK, and promoting positive change. We believe that the current diagnostically-based paradigm of care has comprehensively failed, and that the future lies in non-medical alternatives which explicitly acknowledge the causal role of social and relational conflicts, abuses, adversities and injustices.
