Our Mission

We aim to shift the Overton Window—expanding the range of socially and politically acceptable discussions—when it comes extreme states, or what get called; Non-Ordinary Transformative Experiences (NOTEs), and their profound implications:

NOTEs suggest that reality is fundamentally non-material and that all beings are interconnected.
Patterns emerging from NOTEs reveal a deep link to trauma healing, offering transformative potential beyond conventional therapy and medicine.

How We’re Making an Impact

Creating a compelling film exploring these experiences: The ELEPHANT Film

Why the ELEPHANT?

Inspired by the Indian parable of the blind men and the elephant, where each person perceives only a fragment of the whole, we believe that by sharing perspectives, we can uncover a deeper truth about existence.

Today, with unprecedented access to diverse cultures, ideas, and beliefs, humanity is in a unique position to move beyond its limited perspectives. Those who have experienced NOTEs may hold vital pieces of a new understanding of reality. By coming together and sharing our experiences, we believe we are mapping a new paradigm of consciousness.

Embracing the ‘Elephant in the Room’

Science currently explains only 5% of the universe. Even physicists describe certain particle behaviours as “spooky”. Rather than ignoring the mystery, we embrace it—with open minds and humility, believing that we all hold a piece of the puzzle.

In a world often divided, this exploration is not just about understanding reality—it is about fostering unity, shared purpose, and a more conscious way of living for humanity and our planet.

MITUK’s mission is to serve as a catalyst for fundamentally re-thinking theory and practice in the field of mental health in the UK, and promoting positive change. We believe that the current diagnostically-based paradigm of care has comprehensively failed, and that the future lies in non-medical alternatives which explicitly acknowledge the causal role of social and relational conflicts, abuses, adversities and injustices.
